Some of my regular readers may remember that a short story of mine “Wolf in the Wind” was included in the 2022 Crucifixion Press anthology Shoot the Devil: Ten Tales of Humans Defeating the Demonic. It’s a collection of science fiction, fantasy, and horror stories generally from a Christian perspective that depicts people combatting and defeating literal evil. My own story was less religious, but nonetheless, a battle in the supernatural realm involving a female occult detective in the 1880s west.

Apparently, it did pretty well, so well in fact that the publisher decided to print a sequel. It should go on pre-sale on October 15, 2023 and is called “Shoot the Devil 2: Dark Matter.”

Basically, it’s the same theme only in space.

I’m posting this today because we finally have a cover (see above). With only a slight tweaking, it could be a graphic image of my short story “The Heavens Declare His Glory.”

I’ve always wanted to write a story about what would happen if Christians traveled into space, met other intelligent species, and attempted to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with them. The aliens would have no clue, lacking all of the historical and cultural context of the Bible. They may also be completely devoid of the concept of sin, good, evil, salvation, mortality, eternal life, you get the picture.

In the past, such stories were used to illustrate how lame Christianity is and how bound to the past and ancient cultures such beliefs are.

But what if a supreme God and Creator of the universe really exists? Would He make Himself known just to the people of Earth and not to the other self-aware civilizations in the galaxy? What would happen, in that context, if a young officer on his first deep space voyage, tried to share his faith with the aliens?

I think my tale illustrates an outcome that has never been attempted before, at least to my knowledge.
