My short story “The Other Place” will be published in the Raconteur Press anthology “The Super Generation.”

Imagine there was a one-time cosmic event that gave certain people superpowers. The event was never repeated and the superpowered people couldn’t pass their abilities on to their children. Only these people in their generation would be the superheroes and villains.

That’s the challenge each author whose stories are within these pages faced. Here’s a small example of my tale:

“I can’t tell you what an unexpected thrill it is to be hauled out of bed in the middle of the night to attend one of our special meetings, Marj.” Steve was leaning forward in his uncomfortable government-issued metal framed chair. The room was in semi-darkness. The top of the table in front of him was bare. There was another chair opposite him, but Special Agent Marjorie Williams had chosen to stand. There were two anonymous men, not the ones who retrieved him, standing to either side of the door on his left. The traditional two-way mirror had long ago been replaced in these rooms by small, hidden cameras.

“It wasn’t quite like that, Steve.” She was dressed in a dull-gray pantsuit with a white blouse. Williams was the quintessential image of every government operative he had known for the past half-century apart from her being black. Her hair was pulled back in a severe bun and her palms were pressed together as if she were about to pray.

“You got to have coffee and breakfast and your flight didn’t leave until oh six-hundred. Was the trip pleasant? How was the in-flight service?”

“Cut the bullshit, Marj. I’ve been retired for years. Why drag me back into the cloak and dagger business?” He was dressed in a pair of faded jeans. A light jacket covered his black t-shirt plastered with the logo of rock band from the 80s.

“Right to the point. I’ve always admired that about you.” She shifted her weight slightly. “To be blunt, we think you’ve been holding out on us. Your contractual obligation didn’t end when you retired. Everything you discover in the Other still belongs to us.”

The book should be published any day now, but I can’t post links until it’s available in Kindle and Paperback formats and then the links to them go active on the publisher’s website.

I am excited that I got cover credit on top of having “The Other Place” accepted in the anthology. It’s not quite the superhero story you might expect.

I’ll post links on where to buy “The Super Generation” when I get them. Please stand by.
