“Not this one either, Lilly,” Martin complained. “This isn’t a person, just some building.”
“You wanted a bob,” said the virtual avatar.
“As in haircut, not a…” He consulted his heads-up menu. “Big Old Building.”
The immediate environment shuffled through a series of images like cards.
“You didn’t like Hailey Bieber, Jenna Ortega, Zendaya, Megan Thee Stallion…”
“Megan Thee Stallion, yuck,” spat Martin. “1920s. I said I wanted a VR simulation of an actress from the 1920s…”
“…I know,” said Lilly “…bob haircut.”
“Wait. That’s her!”
“Louise Brooks,” said Lilly. “Yes, she’s rather fetching.”
“Run her first movie for me.”
It’s Wednesday and time for a brand new Friday Fictioneers writing challenge hosted by Rochelle Wisoff-Fields.
The idea is to use the image up to as the inspiration for crafting a poem or short story no more than 100 words long. My word count is exactly 100.
I looked up “The BOB” as shown in the photo and found THIS. I wasn’t inspired and gravitated to the haircut made popular in the 1920s by actress Louise Brooks.
However, in searching for actresses who are known for the “bob cut,” I ran across this list and decided to have some fun (at their expense).
I “borrowed” the title from the 1991 comedy film What About Bob?

I just signed a contract with Starry Eyed Press to have ten of my drabbles (the maximum allowed by the anthology) published in their book “Drabbles: Second Wave.” These are stories of exactly 100 words using the theme, not first contact with an alien species, but what happens next.
I’ve also recently had other short stories accepted for publication (or have been editing the same at the publisher’s request) in a ghost related anthology, a Christian science fiction collection, and something to do with magical familiars. No specifics yet, but they’re coming.

His definitely wins the ‘fun’ award, and creative. Loved it.

James, I love your collage piece, drawing from this and that and putting it together so entertainingly. Yep, that’s the place. They used to have a rave-like place in the basement where the bodies were crammed in like sardines. We used to sweat our …. off in there. The energy was incredible.

That was great fun. Including all these elements with the virtual assistant, and then the very pretty actress. Well done!
