If someone is critical of you in a harsh tone of voice, try telling them the following:
“I appreciate your strong feelings about the matter, but I would appreciate the comments more if they were expressed more pleasantly.”
From Rabbi Zelig Pliskin’s book Gateway to Self Knowledge, pp.184-6
Given all of those shrill voices in social media and occasionally in real life, this is a much needed reminder that we can ask folks to turn down the volume a bit.
Love it! So tired of illogical noises.

It’s hard when someone comments on my post that they’d like to see my wife shot through the head that “I appreciate your strong feelings about the matter, but I would appreciate the comments more if they were expressed more pleasantly.”

I’m sure once someone crosses the line (and a death threat definitely qualifies) that you no longer have to be restrained. Who said such an outrageous thing?

Probably just a troll surfing by. I replied to him/her on your blog and if the cretin becomes troublesome, block his/her name, email addy, and IP address. There might even be a way to report him/her to WordPress if the comments violate their right of use agreement.
