Make It Burn

If you like my work, buy me a virtual cup of coffee at Ko-Fi.

“See? What did I tell you.” Brad waved his arm dramatically in the direction of the chandelier.

“You’re right.” Katie’s mouth hung open aghast. “It must rate a nine-point-five on the Richter scale of bad taste. And whoever thought that god-awful purple light added anything to the room?”

“Yeah,” added Brad. “That lampshade is strictly 1970s puke terrible.”

“You’re sure they’re not coming back tonight.” She looked at him, suddenly serious.

“Off on a Bahama cruise for the next week. No pets. No house sitters.”

Katie opened her gas can and started splashing the contents around. “Let’s torch this place.”

It’s Wednesday and once again time to participate in Rochelle Wisoff-Fields’ 20 December 2024 edition of Friday Fictioneers. The idea is to use the image above as the prompt for crafting a poem or short story no more than 100 words long. My word count is exactly 100.

I’m sorry if I hurt anyone’s feelings, but I really thought the chandelier and the room in general looked awful. I wrote the story out of pure emotional response. This may be someone’s cup of tea but it’s not mine.

Two things:

My 2021 fantasy novelette Ice just got a five-star review on Amazon and goodreads, so I’m pretty stoked. Try it out and see why it’s consistently gotten four and five star ratings.

Also, my science fiction novelette The Fallen Shall Rise is available as a FREE download from Amazon to your Kindle device between now and Saturday the 21st. The price is right, so you can’t go wrong in downloading, reading, and reviewing it.

Indie authors need love, too.

  1. I understand the aversion to the decor, James. Firebugs don’t need much of a reason. One of the most misunderstood mental health conditions — and damned dangerous for society.
