Another morning alone sitting in front of the window. Another morning with my wee table absent of a decent game of checkers. Dim, gray light pours through the window while the desk lamp emits a warmer, golden glow.
I wish I’d gotten more sleep last night but the missus continues to refuse to admit she snores. The sofa was comfortable, but then she started banging around the kitchen fixing breakfast.
Finally, she and the grandchildren are off for the day. No use avoiding it.
I get up and transfer my lazy, tuchus to the computer chair. Time to start writing.

It’s Wednesday which means it’s time again for Rochelle Wisoff-Field’s 19 September 2025 edition of Friday Fictioneers. The idea is to use the image above to prompt the crafting of a poem or short story no more than 100 words long. My word count is exactly 100.
This isn’t much of a story. In fact, it’s pretty much a “slice of life” of what I’m feeling. Yes, my wife snores like a chainsaw, so I spent most of the night on the sofa. Just as I was easing into another cozy dream, it was time for her to get up and fix the grandchildren breakfast. Oy.
I’m trying to pull together a couple of stories in my head and get to writing, but it’s always harder when my brain is a bit foggy.

“iSoldiers Anthology of Military Science Fiction” will contain four of my military SciFi drabbles. The skill to create those “100 word” stories was honed right here on “Friday Fictioneers.
