Based on the 1950s television show Tom Corbett Space Cadet, the book is updated in terms of our modern understanding of science as well as more nuanced characterizations and plot.

A disaster that almost destroyed a human colony “cloud city” in the atmosphere of Venus sends Tom Corbett, his fellow cadets, Captain Steve Strong, and their ship the Polaris hunting a decades old menace across the solar system and into interstellar space. Their only ally is a woman from Captain Strong’s past who is not what she appears to be and may have an unlikely and menacing connection with one of the young cadets.
