It’s here!
The Haunted Places (universal link) anthology featuring my short story “Haunting Chloe” is now available!
Here’s a sample of my story:
It seemed like they’d been skating together forever. She didn’t really know how long. The clouds were still covering the sky like a dark blanket.
“It’s getting windy. Let’s go back to the pier and sit for a while.” She’d talked to Dad about Davy last night (except the part about him falling through the ice). He said Davy couldn’t be staying anywhere near Alice Cove. There weren’t any other cabins within miles. The closest motel was at the resort on the other side of the lake, but that was a forty-minute drive.
“You go ahead. I’ll be there in a minute.”
Chloe waited but he turned away and kept skating in wide, slow circles.
“Okay, but don’t take too long. I’m freezing.”
He waved and kept going, so she headed back toward the pier. She must have been about ten yards out when she heard him scream. At the same time there was that awful cracking and breaking.
Chloe wheeled around. It was happening just like yesterday. Davy was falling into the frigid water. It was a horrible nightmare and she couldn’t wake up.
“No! Davy!” She almost left him but then headed back out. There had to be something she could do. Chloe sobbed and then seeing the fractures getting nearer, she stopped.
“Davy?”
The waters were black and still. The ice creaked beneath her. Wind rushed past her face making her cheeks and ears hurt. She trembled.
Chloe shrieked as something cold grabbed her ankle.
“Chloe.” The voice gurgled. She was being pulled backward.
“Why didn’t you help…” He coughed and gagged.
She looked down. His fingers were bloated and green, the flesh half eaten away. Her gaze followed the arm. The body was partly on the ice. She couldn’t see his legs but the face…Davy’s face, what was left of it…
Chloe yanked her foot out of his grip and fell on her side, hurting her arm. She was at the edge of the gap in the ice. He was crawling up after her. He’d push her in.
You can find the anthology at the universal link (all online sellers), Amazon Kindle, or Amazon print.
