My Novel “Our Legacy, The Stars” Got a Five-Star Review

I’ve plastered this all over social media so I might as well say it on my blog as well. My space opera novel Our Legacy, The Stars: A Tom Corbett Adventure has received its first five-star review on both Amazon and goodreads.

As many of you know, this novel was originally presented on Amazon Vella as a 16-episode series, much like the old magazine and movie serials of the past. Classic speculative and adventure fiction, everything from Edgar Rice Burroughs’ “Tarzan” and “John Carter of Mars” as well as Arthur Conan Doyle’s “Sherlock Holmes” stories were originally serialized in magazines (no, I don’t hold myself up to those masters at all, I’m just making the point).

In the movie serials of the 1930s and 40s, science fiction adventures from Flash Gordon to Buck Rogers were presented in theaters a chapter per week, bringing audiences back again and again to see how the hero or heroine was saved from the latest cliffhanger.

Tom Corbett: Space Cadet was a child of that era, specifically the early to mid-1950s. He’s also appeared in everything from books to comic books and now, finally, has emerged into our 21st century, updated for the science, backstories, and characterization.

The Literary Post said of my novel:

Pyles takes us back to a simpler time in science fiction, complete with all of the warm nostalgic fuzzies that go along with it.

The five-star review goes thus:

One of the things I like about old-time SciFi is the writers were not limited by known science. They allowed the reader’s imagination to soar with limitless possibilities. Mr. Pyles has captured this style with his book. Truthfully, I am a technophobe, but I was able to understand the way the characters performed their duties while facing their adventures. I recommend this book everyone who loves SciFi, old or new, and just anyone who enjoys reading a good story.

Of course, I’m thrilled, but this is only the beginning.

Indie authors and publishers don’t have the luxury of depending on a big marketing machine to spread the word. We could tell the best story or at least a pretty good one, but no one will ever know unless someone talks about it.

That’s why it’s important to buy, read, and review books like mine (yes, this is an unabashed plug). I don’t expect to become the next Stephen King in terms of fame and fortune but I would like to write a good story and have it read and appreciated.

If one person thought my novel was good enough for five-stars, maybe you’ll like it too. I mean, that’s kind of the point of reviews, to help us decide which books to read and which ones to bypass.

So here we are. Click the link and buy my book, available both in paperback and Kindle formats.

Please leave and honest review and let me and the rest of the world know what you think.

Thanks.
